The National Register of Legal Entities, or simply CNPJ, is a register that brings together all legal entities of the country, being obligatory for all before the beginning of its activities as a company. It has a function similar to that of the Individual Taxpayer’s Registry (CPF) for individuals, since, by gathering various information about the entity, it functions as an identification of a business before the IRS – the body responsible for its administration.

Until November 10, 2014, any taxpayer wishing to take CNPJ online should download two applications. The first of these was the Document Generator Program, through which the applicant completed the required data, and the second was the Receitanet , through which the forms were sent to the IRS. Both programs were provided free of charge by Revenue itself.

However, as of November 10, 2014, the entire procedure was carried out exclusively by the CNPJ Online Collection application, also called the Web Collection. Like the old Document Generator, the Web Collection acts as a platform in which the taxpayer will fill in the necessary date for the application for registration. The difference is that, from then on, the whole process is online, requiring no more downloading of applications and installing programs.

The first step, then, is to access the Revenue website in search of the Web Collection application. On the program page, fill in the UF and the Municipality corresponding to the project and choose between the “Complete New Request” and “Retrieve Request”, according to your case. Continue to fill in the data that you are asked for.

After completing the data, it is time to send them to the IRS to draw CNPJ. As stated earlier, it is no longer necessary to install an application to perform the transmission. The entire procedure is now online and all you have to do is click on the “Finish Fill” menu in the Web Collection application and your data will be sent.

In all kinds of transactions, it is good to have a receipt for later conference or solving problem, and here it is no different. Once your transmission is successful, the application will provide the Receipt Delivery, which should be printed by clicking on the “Prepare Page to Print” option of the same application.
